Meet the Committee

Adelaide Masters is run by volunteers. The committee helps organise training, events and the day-to-day running of the club.

Here are a few of the people currently serving on the committee and what being part of the club means to them.

Peter

Secretary

I joined Adelaide Masters Swimming Club in the early 1990s and the committee in 2013. I have been secretary through the 2020’s. My role here is to respond to club correspondence, take minutes at meetings and keep a record of club documents.

The club has had its ups and downs during my time as a member for a number of reasons but is certainly on an upward trend at the moment. It is great seeing an influx of new members recently and the involvement of some of these in a very active committee presently. I think the club has a very bright future and is looking forward to its 50th year celebration next year.

Lidia

General Committee Member

Lidia joined Adelaide Masters Swimming 14 months ago and quickly found a welcoming community full of training, competition, and fun. Keen to give back, she joined the committee as a general member.

With experience in management, strategy, governance, and project coordination, Lidia contributes to the club newsletter and supports events such as the Duel in the Pool. Being on the committee has been a rewarding way to contribute to the club and connect with fellow swimmers outside the lanes.

Paloma

Recorder

Hi, I’m Paloma.

I joined Adelaide Masters in 2023 and somehow found myself on the committee not long after. One of my goals was to improve communication within the club, so we launched the Adelaide Masters WhatsApp group. It now has around 65 members and is a lively mix of training logistics, last-minute updates and the occasional bit of quality banter. We also started a committee WhatsApp to discuss ideas more casually than long email threads.

I also wanted to make the club a bit more visible during training, so I created the A-frame sign you’ll see poolside.

Another idea was a limited-edition T-shirt fundraiser which raised over $800 for the club and got a lot of members into fresh Adelaide Masters merch.

And finally, possibly my most important contribution — helping bring our Adelaide Masters koala mascot to life. He now proudly wears AM bathers and was named Howard, after former member Howard Muller, who welcomed swimmers at the sign-in table for many years.

Elliott

Nominations officer

I joined Adelaide Masters in 2022, within a few days of moving from Melbourne. It was my first time swimming with a group – which was a lovely way to meet a few friendly people, and a much nicer way to train! You’ll see me at most training sessions, most social events, and the occasional competition.

I wanted to get involved and help with some of the logistics and tech/admin sides of club, and at the 2025 AGM joined the committee. It’s been great seeing ideas thrown around, form something more concrete, people jumping in on tasks, and finally seeing it come to fruition. Although I’ve worked on tech projects before, working on things for a social club is really new to me and so has been quite challenging and fun. My biggest project this last year was setting up the new Swimming Balance admin system so that it’s quick and reliable to use.

We’ve had a full committee this past year, and we’ve got such a mix of different strengths and skill sets to draw on, and everyone’s been keen to help each other out. Us new folk on the committee were looked after really well by Jeff and others with more experience. We really had no clue at first how it worked! I’ve really enjoyed everyone’s company, and just being part of a motivated group who want to get things done, and help the club do and try new things.
