Christina Boros Bequest

Christina Boros

Christina was a friendly, dedicated, enthusiastic club member who enjoyed all club activities and enthusiastically attended training at every opportunity. Her fitness and swimming skills improved significantly and in 2020 she became confident enough to enter the MSSA Interclub series, winning medals in her State Cup events. She gained immense enjoyment and fulfilment through her swimming experiences and achievements with the club, and after her sad, untimely passing in 2021, she made a generous bequest to the club.

The original Bequest stated that the funds were to be spent on extra lane hire at the Burnside pool to improve swimmers experience at training. Unfortunately, Burnside pool couldn’t accommodate this request due to their ongoing commitments. Subsequently a sub-committee was established to discuss investing and spending options in accordance with Christina’s will.

It was agreed:

  • That the funds be invested in a term deposit account to obtain maximum return.
  • 60% of the yearly interest earned, or $1500 (which ever is the least) to be used by the club, allowing the reminder of the fund to continue to grow or at least keep up with inflation. This should be reviewed at least every second year.
  • As part of her legacy, 60% of interest generated annually from the bequest fund would be utilised in 2 areas:
    1. An annual event or experience for club members enjoyment, remembering that Christina was a novice swimmer and keen to improve her skills. An event offered by the club in 2023 was Stroke Video Analysis Sessions. These were provided by an Adelaide based coach and made available to all club members. This was thoroughly enjoyed and beneficial to all who participated in the session.
    2. A yearly Encouragement award in Christina’s name, with the recipient nominated by the sub-committee. Criteria for the award, swimmer has achieved beyond expectations, either in training, pool or Open Water competitions. Nominations from any club member can be submitted to the sub-committee for consideration. The award would consist of Club membership fees as well as choice of club merchandise.
  • Participation in these initiatives are only available to financial club members.
